Unlike closed-corpus tools, GapMap lets researchers work from their own selected corpus. Import exactly the records you exported and analyze that selection — nothing else.

A review workflow, not a chatbot

Screening stays a deliberate, recorded decision per study. Extraction runs inside a customized local workflow built for research review tasks, with confidence and matched evidence attached to each field.

Local-first by architecture

Known limitations are written down rather than hidden, the gap engine reports usable-evidence counts alongside every candidate gap, and nothing in the app claims a gap is novel — that judgement stays with the researcher.

FAQ

Questions researchers ask first

Who owns and controls my corpus?

You do. GapMap works from records you export yourself — Scopus CSV, a Web of Science text or CSV export, RIS, BibTeX or XLSX. Records from other sources such as JSTOR import once you save them as RIS or CSV. There is no platform-owned corpus you are limited to.

Does the AI run offline, and where does it run?

On your own Windows machine. Screening is a manual decision per study, and the first extraction pass is deterministic — parsers and lexicons, no model required. Local AI-assisted extraction is an optional extra pass: you install a research-extraction model once, and it then runs entirely on your computer with no account, API key or internet. Project data is not uploaded to train third-party models.

Is GapMap suitable for GDPR-sensitive research?

GapMap is designed to support privacy- and GDPR-sensitive workflows by keeping project data on your computer. It is not a substitute for your own institutional data-handling review.

What exactly does the trial limit?

The trial runs for 14 days and is capped at 50 records per project. Screening, extraction (including local AI-assisted extraction once configured), analysis and CSV/PNG/SVG export are all available on the trial; PDF, DOCX and XLSX export require a paid licence.

Is GapMap available for Mac?

Not yet. GapMap Research Studio is a Windows 10 and 11 desktop application today.

How do I activate a paid licence?

A paid licence is delivered as an offline .gapmaplic file. Open the activation screen in GapMap and select the file — see the activation guide for the full steps.

How do I cite GapMap Research Studio?

A ready-to-copy citation is provided in the trust section above, using the software name, author, version and website domain.

Does GapMap guarantee my research gap is novel?

No. GapMap surfaces candidate research gaps that require researcher review — it supports, but does not replace, scholarly judgment.
